  The Labrador

These trips in the Canadian Far North are located in Labrador, north of the 53°N.

The ecological environment is called taiga: there are great black spruce forests, the ground is covered with caribou mosses and a huge number of lakes and rivers dot the landscape.

The first humans live on this territory since thousands years. Nowadays, just little first nations and Canadians remain in this so big area.

This region still remains mysterious and wild. The first white explorers who travelled the area only did it at the beginning of the 20th century! One of them, Leonidas Hubbard (1903) died of starvation in its famous attempt to reach the George River, which runs toward the Arctic Ocean.

The Labrador has a subarctic climate and is a harsh and unforgiving land. However, it is relatively rich in wildlife and the landscape is magnificent.
